You should be able to think in a holistic manner and have a well-structured and organised approach to problems, along with an appreciation of sustainability, and a 'can-do' attitude.Background:The ideal candidate is innovative, technologically savvy, environmentally responsible, and has a desire to make things happen.Results oriented - Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines without compromising quality.Analytical, process, and continuous improvement focused.Proactive with problem-solving and a solution-focused approach.The successful applicant will have:Tertiary qualifications in Science or Engineering.Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in a similar packaging or engineering role in a FMCG medium to large organisation.Basic understanding of GS1 systems and pallet configuration management.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.Excellent project management skills with the ability to work to tight timelines.Exceptional time management and project planning skills.Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.Intermediate to advanced computer literacy in MS Office, especially Excel.Innovative independent self-starter with accuracy and attention to detail.This position will report to the R&D Manager.The daily duties will include:Manage a portfolio of packaging projects including sustainability, NPD, and packaging cost savings across multiple manufacturing platforms.Conduct packaging validation trials on the production lines, capturing data and results.Organize APCO compliance, comply with yearly reporting, and assess new and innovative packaging formats to determine suitability and assure sustainability compliance with APCO regulations.Work between the NPD team and Engineering team to create supplier packaging briefs and arrange new packaging for new and existing products, confirm final packaging material and dimensions, and establish lead times for packaging/tooling.Correspond with production packing during the development stage to ensure packaging solutions are aligned with their process efficiencies, machinery requirements, and product quality.Work with Marketing/Sales to ensure labelling design and product packaging die lines are submitted and received in line with the project deadlines.Identify system requirements for packaging specifications and manage packaging material specifications.Provide packaging-related information to all internal/external audits or certifications.Flexible schedule as some of the trials will happen before/after 9-5.
