The Agency ensures that Australia’s space activities contribute to Australia’s national interest and broader Government objectives, including enhanced economic resilience, social cohesion, environmental sustainability, and national security.The Agency’s functions include:Leadership of policy and coordination of civil space activities across government.Shape and grow national space capability, including delivery of Agency programs.Lead international civil space engagement for economic and strategic benefit, in alignment with Australian foreign policy objectives.Promote a responsible, effectively regulated space sector, while delivering on our international obligations.Promote the value and benefits of space to the community, including to inspire a highly skilled workforce.Our ideal candidateOur ideal candidate will have:A highly resilient and outcomes-focused mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.Previous experience working in executive support is desirable.What you will doThe Executive Officer to Head of Agency is responsible for:Providing strategic and trusted advice to the Head of Agency, and the Agency’s Senior Executive team, on a broad range of areas, including, but not limited to:Effective operational and administrative systemsInternal and external stakeholder engagements and opportunitiesComplex issues and emerging risks that may impact on the Agency’s reputation and operationsOpportunities and initiatives to advance the Agency’s strategic priorities in alignment with the Agency’s Business PlanMaintaining detailed knowledge of the Agency’s Business Plan and strategic priorities, as well as emerging issues and priorities impacting on the Agency’s work to support the Head of Agency and enable effective strategic decision making.Preparing and organising complex, quality assured and well-researched correspondence, briefings, presentations, papers and other corporate, ministerial and parliamentary documents to and on behalf of the Head of Agency, including and in relation to confidential and sensitive matters.Triage the information flow into the Head of Agency, including coordinating requests, responding to correspondence, and making related decisions on behalf of the Head of Agency.Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including as a representative of the Head of Agency, with:Senior departmental executivesMinisterial advisers across governmentsC-suite CEOsSenior executives across government and international agenciesConsulting and negotiating in relation to relevant issues on behalf of the Head of Agency.Supporting the Head of Agency’s international travel and related engagements, including project management of travel plans, logistics and briefings.Overseeing the Office of the Head of Agency, including all executive support functions and team management.Overseeing the secretariat management of the Australian Space Agency Advisory Board, including upholding best practice governance processes.Representing the Head of Agency and the Office of the Head of Agency in a professional, respectful and courteous manner.Other tasks and projects as directed by the Head of Agency.EligibilityTo be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens. Positions require a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.NotesA merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
