Backed by its global expertise, the company is at the forefront of Australia's renewable energy industry.Position overview This is a rare opportunity to build and develop your own projects team for a large organisation!The Head of Project Development is a dual hands-on and management role, responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects. This role encompasses all aspects of project development, from pre-approval planning to the final delivery and commissioning of projects. Additionally, the role provides strategic direction for future projects, contributing to the long-term success of the company.Project Development Manage various aspects of project development, including post-approval management plans and strategies.Oversee technical due diligence required for financial close (debt & equity workstreams).Lead in-house engineering activities, including energy performance modeling, layout development, and design and equipment optimization for utility-scale projects.Appoint and manage external planning and technical consultants for development and engineering tasks.Support key project delivery aspects from the Owner's side, including EPC selection, design, construction, and commissioning.Assist in financial and technical evaluations, due diligence, and cost-benefit analyses of greenfield site selection and project acquisition.Contribute to business plans by integrating hybrid systems and Energy Storage System (ESS) solutions.Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders across all projects, in collaboration with the Executive Director.Manage the commercial and legal aspects of development approvals, community contributions, Planning Agreements, and neighbor agreements to achieve cost-effective, implementable contracts.Ensure timely submission of post-approval plans and responses to Consent Authorities and stakeholders.Monitor and ensure permit compliance for projects during construction and operational phases.Provide regular reports on project development activities, schedules, milestones, budgets, and risk management.Project Delivery Oversee all engineering activities related to project delivery, including the management of EPC Contractor's design, Owner's and Lender's engineers, and specialist consultants.Administer construction contracts, process progress claims and variations, and resolve contract issues.Manage relationships with external stakeholders involved in project delivery.Develop and review project technical specifications in compliance with local and international standards and best practices.Ensure all technical requirements from project development consent are met.Oversee the detailed design phase to ensure specifications, quality, and performance requirements are achieved.Ensure compliance with project performance specifications, OH&S, environmental, and quality assurance standards.Travel to project sites as required to manage on-site responsibilities.Represent the owner during commissioning, managing coordination between EPC, NSP, AEMO, and internal/external Grid Specialists to ensure compliance with the National Electricity Rules and Generator Performance Standards.Coordinate between construction and operations teams for the closeout of punch list items.Leadership & Team Building Develop, grow and lead and support a team of renewable energy professionals to deliver high-quality commercial and technical outcomes.Foster a high-performance team culture, encouraging collaboration and continuous improvement.Take responsibility for mentoring and developing junior team members, guiding their professional growth.Work Experience & Skills Experience in the utility scale solar energy industry essentialExperience managing multiple projects and leading teams of highly skilled individualsDegree qualifications in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline or equivalent industry experience preferredExcellent customer and stakeholder relationship management skills including demonstrated influencing skills with potential customers, decision makers, and other relevant stakeholdersFamiliarity with site access issues and OH&S requirements strong understanding and commitment to zero-harm safety principles.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.Proficiency in business and project management software, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project/Primavera, Aconex, etc.Individuals with well-rounded skillsets across senior leadership positions are encouraged to apply.
