Responsibilities and Duties Fashion designers are primarily responsible for designing and making clothing, footwear, and/or accessories.Their responsibilities may include overseeing teams of designers or other team members to make their designs a reality and then marketing their designs for retail or other markets. Collaborate with team members to select seasonal themes, make line edits, and generate new concepts. Ensure that developed products align with the overall business strategy. Choose appropriate fabrics and trims for the design concepts. Create production sketches to compile comprehensive development packages. Work closely with a technical designer to verify the accuracy of development packages. Observe fashion trends to predict designs for consumers. Choose a theme for designs and collections. Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) programs for designs. Participate in fashion shows with designs. Pick fabrics, colors, designs, and more for pieces. Instruct manufacturers or teams of designers on how to make the piece. Manage the production of pieces. Create prototypes or models. Discuss designs with directors or managers.
