2-year fixed term role, with opportunity to extendOnsite role, office located on the breathtaking Hobart waterfrontAbout the Opportunity As a Data Engineer at AODN, you will play a crucial role in delivering data from national environmental data collection programs to stakeholders for research, decision-making, and other uses.
You'll collaborate with skilled software engineers and data scientists who are passionate about technology and building impactful products for the marine science community.
Your responsibilities will include developing data processing pipelines for data standardization, reformatting, and generating aggregated datasets.
You'll communicate with internal and external stakeholders to understand end-user needs, ensuring the uptake of AODN data and services.
Additionally, you'll develop solutions to improve data science user engagement and data visualization.
You'll implement and maintain data management systems and workflows for the ingestion, processing, and publication of high-volume scientific data.
What's Required Demonstrated proficiency in Python programming, with experience in developing and maintaining data processing pipelines for data integration and transformation.Demonstrable expertise in Python and/or R, for the processing, analysis, visualization of scientific data and development of data products and Jupyter or R notebook tutorials.Experience working in a team-focused, highly collaborative context on software development, data analysis or similar technical projects, preferably following Agile methodologies.Demonstrated methodical approach to development and documentation of software, data and data products, including using modern code management practices (e.g., version-controlled repositories, online issue tracking and documentation systems).Highly developed technical problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to take ownership of a complex problem and provide solutions.Detail oriented with well-developed written and verbal communication skills that result in effective and appropriate communication, including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely.Ideally you will also have exposure to one or more of the following technologies: databases (such as PostgreSQL or Elasticsearch), cloud infrastructure (such as AWS or Azure), or data formats (such as NetCDF, Zarr or Parquet), and experience or knowledge of the scientific data lifecycle including planning phase, data processing and quality control, and data delivery.
Qualifications and Licence Tertiary qualifications in Marine Science, Data science and/or Computer science or similar or equivalent experience in extensive geospatial data management.

Salary Range Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $126,637 comprising of a base salary within the range of $98,473 to $108,237 plus 17% superannuation.
