About the Role Are you seeking an ongoing, in-house counsel role within a supportive, collaborative and highly skilled Legal services team? This busy role will see you provide legal advice and services across a broad range of legal disciplines and experience a varied and dynamic workload. Reporting to the General Counsel and working closely with other members of the legal team, the primary focus of the role is to provide commercially astute legal advice to the CFA business. This work is corporate in nature and includes advise and the involvement in negotiations for a wide range of commercial and inter-governmental matters including MOU's, agreements and contracts and providing support to the Strategic Services department including Procurement and Finance. The Legal Counsel role will have responsibility for the management of their own files and work will also extend beyond commercial and contracts work to include property licences and leases, litigation claims and administrative law including the CFA Act and Regulations, and delegations amongst other legal disciplines. It will also be necessary to provide advice as to legal risk associated with CFA's activities. There will be work with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, other contracting parties as well as work with external lawyers. About You: The person we are looking for will be admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer and have possession of an unrestricted Victorian practising certificate. In addition, you will have demonstrated experience in the application of legal principles to commercial law and a wide range of issues across a range of legal disciplines, however with a focus on contract. Naturally you will be customer centric and have exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively, building productive working relationships with stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives. Further to this you will have excellent written and verbal communications skills, capable of managing multiple files, drafting, reviewing, advising and negotiating complex agreements and MOUs, writing high quality, well researched and concise advices, reports, briefs and correspondence. Crucial to your success in this role will be your proven experience in the provision contractual, commercial and strategic legal advice including the interpretation and application of legislation in relation to matters arising within a large and complex environment.
