About the role The Medical Emergency Services Officer (MESO) contributes to the success of Liberty Primary Steel (LPS) through the delivery of a fit for purpose Emergency Response (Fire, Rescue, Medical Response and Asset Protection) capability in line with operational requirements and risk environment at the Whyalla Steelworks and associates SIMEC Mining functions.
The MESO is responsible for supporting the Emergency Response Capability through the delivery of prescribed emergency services to agreed operational standards.
The role also includes supporting the development and conduct of regular emergency response exercises, delivery of first aid, working at heights, confined space and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) training.
Roster: 14 days on, 14 days off, rotating day and night shift.
Location: Whyalla site based.
Key Responsibilities: Respond to medical related calls for assistance and provide first responder medical support in accordance with site requirements, and in line with Clinical Practice Guidelines.
Undertaking training, compliance and reporting activity relating to a range of emergency responses including First Aid response and equipment/apparatus, fire response and rescue situations (e.g.
industrial, confined space, vertical rescue, heavy transport, rail and ports).
Support the development and review of emergency response and rescue plans relating to the Liberty Primary Steel hazard environment to ensure fit for purpose response and rescue plans are completed and all emergency response team members are conversant and trained in the plans.
Support the maintenance of operational readiness relating to personnel, fleet and equipment to prescribed standards.
Undertake Emergency Response Team activity in accordance with best practice, prescribed procedures, instructions and plans in a manner that ensures a safe, effective, and controlled response.
Ensure emergency response equipment, vehicles and PPE are maintained in a high level of operational readiness and escalate any unserviceable items and purchasing to the Emergency Management Lead for consideration and further action.
Support the development of an Auxiliary Response Group (ARG), ensuring that ARG members are prepared and able to respond to escalated emergency response incidents in accordance with agreed processes.
Undertake training, compliance and reporting activity for a range or emergency response functions in accordance with team plans and prescribed compliance processes.
Undertake communications and asset protection functions as required.
Maintain thorough knowledge of site, including operational areas, roads, buildings, fire systems, water supply, dangerous substances storage, hazards and emergency response related equipment across site.
Maintaining fitness for work in accordance with prescribed requirements.
Participate in investigations and post-incident debriefs.
About your expereince To be successful, you will have a minimum of three years emergency response experience, preferably on an industrial or mining site, be a team player with strong communication skills and emotional intelligence; you will have a passion for health, fitness and emergency response, coupled with a strong work ethic, ability to think on your feet and adapt to a range of different situations.
Essential qualifications/skills: Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue Medium/Heavy Rigid Driver's Licence Certificate IV in Health Care (Ambulance) or equivalent PUAEME008 - Provide pain management HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (Includes CPR) HLTAID014 - Provide Advanced First Aid HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy HLTPA005 - Collect Specimens for drugs of abuse testing or similar Strong verbal and written communication skills Competent with MS Office Suite Strong problem-solving abilities It will also be beneficial if you have any of the following: Certificate III PUA Firefighting Certificate II Security Operations Certificate IV Workplace Trainer and Assessor Certificate III Emergency Communication Centre Operations Certificate IV in Emergency Response Coordination Certificate IV Surface Extraction Operations Certified in Low voltage rescue A working knowledge of industrial/site-based emergency response policies, protocols and procedure.
Successful applicants will need to demonstrate fitness for employment in this position, including pre-employment medical, criminal and traffic history check, drug and alcohol testing and emergency response verification of competency assessment.
