About the Business Our Community and Aboriginal Partnerships Division helps to build community safety and wellbeing by providing support and services to children, young people and families, including those involved with the youth justice system, remote Aboriginal communities, people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and people with complex and exceptional needs. The division also leads the department's Closing the Gap efforts.
Role Details The Manager, Security Services, is a role within Kurlana Tapa Youth Justice Centre and is accountable to the Assistant General Manager, Accommodation and Security Services, for:
Management of Control, Reception, Admissions, Night Shift and Home Detention operations and Security Services administration including intelligence related functions.
Oversight of security infrastructure, hardware and systems in place in Kurlana Tapa and review, evaluation and recommendation of emerging technologies.
Development, evaluation, review and implementation of security procedures, processes and contingency plans across all security services teams and areas of responsibility.
Oversee the security risk assessment of children and young people in custody, preparing reports for the Assistant General Manager and General Manager regarding the care and safe management of young people.
Providing expert security related advice and oversight of incident and emergency management, and security related matters, within Kurlana Tapa.
Key outcomes and accountabilities:
Line manage Security Services supervisors across day and night shifts and support them to manage the performance, development and supervision of staff, and the effective integration of contemporary security practice across their areas of responsibility.
Develop, evaluate, review and implement plans, procedures and forms within a complex legislative and policy framework in relation to security process and practice across Kurlana Tapa.
Manage the ongoing operation and periodic evaluation of all security infrastructure, hardware and systems across Kurlana Tapa.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with South Australian Police, Department for Corrections, Australian Federal Police and other security, enforcement and intelligence related agencies to identify and address risks to security, safety and order within Kurlana Tapa and community safety generally in support of security services teams, processes and practices.
Develop, evaluate and review security compliance processes across Kurlana Tapa.
Oversee comprehensive access control measures for staff, contractors, service providers, professional visitors and domestic visitors to ensure adherence to security procedures, a safe environment and to meet legislative screening requirements.
Contribute to the timely identification and effective management of risk within Kurlana Tapa, with a specific focus on risk within the security services areas of responsibility.
Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department. The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.
Special Conditions National Police Check required. Employment-related Screening Check required. Some out of hours work may be required. Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required. Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence (equivalent to minimum class C). Desirable: Tertiary qualification in community services, sociology, criminology, justice, correctional practice, social sciences, human services, health or related field, or leadership experience in custodial services for youth in Australia.
