About the Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist to join Icon’s dynamic Medical Physics team based in the picturesque Mornington Peninsula Region of Victoria. This role will provide essential support to our radiotherapy practices and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. You'll will be a key member of Icon’s broad network of physicists supporting innovation through hardware and software at Icon radiation oncology sites nationwide. With the centre due to open to patients in early 2025, this is a unique opening to be part of a multi-disciplinary team starting up.
The new Icon Cancer Centre at the Bays Hospital department will have a Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator with Varian Identify SGRT, and Siemens go.Sim CT scanner with Varian RGSC. Treatment will include Varian HyperArc, advanced motion management packages, and SGRT based treatments. Icon Cancer Centres operate in a paperless environment utilising networked Aria oncology management and Eclipse treatment planning systems. We also have a range of modern software to aid in automation and efficiency including Mobius 3D, RadMachine, and AutoContour. A full suite of Physics QA equipment is also available on-site and our national Medical Physics team operates utilising online collaborative workspaces such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
The appointed Senior Medical Physicist will assist the Regional Medical Physics Manager and Group Director of Medical Physics in providing medical physics support services to the radiotherapy practices at Icon Cancer Centre The Bays. Your responsibilities will include routine physics tasks, equipment quality assurance, patient-specific quality assurance, and treatment planning support. Occasional travel to other Icon departments across the network may be required.
This is a full-time permanent role that will report to the Regional Medical Physics Manager.
The Salary and Professional Development package is under the Integrated Clinical Oncology Network Pty Ltd Victorian Medical Physicists Enterprise Agreement. If deemed suitable, a one-off relocation package may be available.
About the person we are going to hire:
We seek a highly motivated individual a positive and enthusiastic attitude, ready to take on an integral role in the operational management of day-to-day physics activities as well as provide technical Medical Physics expertise across our network. You should have a demonstrated ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary environment and contribute to the development and implementation of new technologies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently to achieve high scientific standards.
Essential Criteria:
5. Eligible for listing on the ACPSEM register of qualified medical physics specialists in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics. Please note, accredited physicists from the UK, USA or Canada are encouraged to apply. Icon has an active program to facilitate overseas accredited physicists gaining entry to the ACPSEM register.
6. Ability to perform routine physics tasks including but not limited to routine equipment quality assurance, patient specific quality assurance (e.g. IMRT/VMAT) and treatment planning support.
7. Proven ability to work independently to a high level of scientific achievement.
8. Demonstrated high levels of communication and interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary team.
9. Experience in managing the implementation of specialty equipment or programs.
10. Capable of self-directed work and possessing excellent problem-solving skills.
11. Evidence of contributing to/participating in in-house research and development projects.
Desirable Criteria
12. Experience with stereotactic treatments, preferably using Varian equipment.
13. Three or more clinical years experience as a qualified medical physicist in an advanced radiotherapy department
14. Experience in leading teams and managing resources
