About the opportunity
This role will be part of a 7-day rotating roster and be responsible for developing and implementing awareness campaigns, supporting with media enquiries, managing and supporting the adoption and use of social media platforms and applications, and providing media support to the volunteers and service’s leadership team. The role will also be required to support the service during operational events, including weekends and night shift, to support the creation and delivery of key safety messages across a range of channels.
Strong written skills are highly desired.

The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is an emergency and rescue service made up almost entirely of volunteers and supported by a small staff contingent. NSW SES is a key influencer of other emergency service agencies and works closely with these partners to modernise and grow volunteering to save lives and protect communities.
While major responsibilities are for flood, storm operations and tsunamis, the NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural), other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats, Urban Search and Rescue and Community First Response.
About you
To be successful in this role you will:
·Have tertiary qualifications in journalism, media/communications or marketing and up to 5 years’ demonstrated experience working within the media or in corporate communications, and be capable of writing, editing, and publishing various materials such as media releases, talking points, newsletters, and web and social media content.
·Experience in planning, developing and implementing communication strategies, plans, media campaigns and events.
·Be able to work autonomously and in a team environment to complete set tasks.
·Have strong communicative and interpersonal skills required to effectively collaborate, advise and train various stakeholders.
·Ability to remain vigilant and report on critical media issues as they arise.
