Pivotal leadership role in shaping a consumer-focused net zero energy systemThe Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) is an independent statutory body dedicated to enhancing Australia’s future productivity and living standards. By contributing to a decarbonising, affordable, and reliable energy system, the AEMC plays a key role in shaping the National Electricity Market, the natural gas market and related retail markets. The Commission is also a trusted advisor to the Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council, providing strategic guidance on energy issues.The AEMC is focused on helping the people of Australia benefit from a low-cost, low emissions, reliable, secure and safe power system – a critical factor for decarbonising the economy, supporting sustainable economic growth and prosperity, giving people confidence in Australia’s commitment to addressing climate change, empowering consumers to easily make informed energy choices, and attracting investors to support the sector.Reporting to the Chair and Commissioners, the Chief Executive Officer will lead the development and execution of the AEMC’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with its mission and adapting to a rapidly evolving energy landscape. Key priorities will include:Supporting the Commission on urgent issues for consumers under the regulatory framework.Progressing work relating to the technical aspects of Consumer Energy Resources.Accelerating work related to long-term market design and the cost-effective delivery of major transmission and network infrastructure.Building and maintaining strong relationships with government, industry, and consumer groups, advocating for effective energy market policies and securing funding where needed will be key to success. The Chief Executive Officer will foster a collaborative, accountable, and forward-thinking culture, mentoring and developing senior leaders to drive organisational success. The role is also accountable for ensuring that the AEMC runs efficiently, managing risk, resources, and compliance while maintaining high standards of transparency and accountability.This role requires a highly experienced and strategic leader, with deep expertise in navigating complex regulatory environments and delivering impactful policy and operational outcomes. With a strong background in governance, stakeholder engagement, and organisational leadership, you will be well-positioned to drive the AEMC’s mission.You will have a proven track record of executive leadership in a regulatory, government, or highly regulated commercial environment, underpinned by exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across government, industry, and consumer groups. A deep understanding of the Australian energy market, policy landscape, and the challenges of energy transition will be highly regarded.In addition, strong strategic and analytical capabilities, with experience in shaping policy, managing risk, and driving organisational performance, will be essential.
