North Queensland Veterinary Service is seeking an aspiring, trainee VETERINARY NURSE looking to undertake their Certificate 2 or Certificate 4 qualification to join our growing clinic in Edmonton. This role has emerged as our clinic gets busier and our team requires more support.
Our nursing team are the engine room of our clinic, ensuring that all of our patients receive the care, attention and love that they deserve. They are responsible for maintaining our clinical areas in an organised, tidy and meticulously clean fashion, and supporting our veterinary team to deliver best practice veterinary science.
The work of our nursing team is divided into three key roles: hospital, surgery and consulting. Our team rotate through these areas to ensure that their skills are well rounded, and that they are constantly being challenged by new and exciting work. They are also trained to assist our customer care team on reception, and from time to time will fill in on our front desk, although this is not a routine part of the role.

They play both a support role to our veterinary team, and also a lead role in delivering a number of para-professional services, including providing advice on nutrition, parasite control, preventative health programs and animal behaviour. Some of these roles include:
Providing memorable customer experiences, compassionate support and assistance to clients on the phone and when visiting the clinic;Provide care for hospital patients including monitoring clinical signs, medicating inpatients, clean and sterilise cages and communicate with owners and colleagues on patient status;Admit patients for surgery, prepare the surgery theatre, monitor anaesthesia, recover patients from surgery and provide discharge information and post-operative care to clients;Ensuring that clinic hygiene and biosecurity procedures are maintained;Support the veterinary team in diagnostic work up, including restraining animals, assisting with radiographs, taking pathology samples, running tests and preparing medications.About Tableland Veterinary Service Our purpose is to support better lives for the people, animals and communities of rural North Queensland with advanced veterinary science and compassionate care.
