Role Description
Senior Regional Relief and Recovery Officer (within Emergency Management)
Ongoing, full time, Flexible Work Location, within our Barwon, South West region
Attractive VPS5 salary between $109,730 - $132,764 + superannuation
DJCS Emergency Management includes the department's emergency management accountabilities delivered through Emergency Management Victoria, Emergency Recovery Victoria, Sector Performance and Reform and emergency management statutory entities and offices.
The work of the group supports the emergency management sector to work together and to strengthen the capacity of individuals, communities, government, agencies and business to achieve our shared vision of safer and more resilient communities and to rebuild and recover after an emergency.
Emergency Recovery Victoria
Emergency Recovery Victoria (ERV) is responsible for state and regional relief and recovery coordination for all emergencies to help communities emerge stronger after a major disaster.
ERV is a business unit within the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
Working directly with impacted communities, all levels of government, agencies and industry, ERV coordinates real, effective and timely support that communities need to recover after a major emergency.
As well as providing strategic leadership on whole-of-government relief and recovery activities and delivering state recovery outcomes, ERV supports locally led relief and recovery efforts by supporting councils to ensure community is at the centre of relief and recovery activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Actively contribute to the research and problem solving of issues and evolving policy to address challenges in relief and recovery by collaborating with peers and stakeholders, ensuring emerging issues are identified and resolved in accordance with statutory responsibilities, emergency management and recovery governance arrangements, and government policy.
* Stakeholder engagement and relationship building is key, as you assist local governments to optimise community outcomes including by assisting them to understand and excel at relief and recovery funding protocols and processes.
Requirements
Working effectively in situations under pressure, you will have the capacity to work across a wide range of agencies and communities, be a trusted relationship builder, have the ability to project manage, possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, be highly motivated, passionate and have the ability to forward plan in a highly complex environment.
You will be a self-motivated and committed individual, with initiative and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work proactively to ensure the best use of time.
You will have excellent administrative and organisational skills, as well as exceptional relationship management capability in order to liaise with a range of government, non-government and community stakeholders.
You will also have strong planning and report writing skills, and highly developed interpersonal skills.
Experience working directly with diverse community groups and across multiple levels of government and shared service providers is desirable, as is experience and familiarity with community resilience and the delivery of trauma-informed relief and recovery practices.
Please note, a full Victorian driver's licence is required due to the need to respond to emergencies across the State at short notice and outside business hours as required.
This role requires work-related travel across metropolitan and regional Victoria, on occasion at very short notice.
Desirable Qualifications
A tertiary qualification in fields related to emergency management, community services, community engagement or business management is highly desirable.
Experience in disaster relief and/or recovery is highly desirable.
