Game Design Lecturer – AIE Institute AIE Institute is a non-profit higher education provider specialising in digital games and interactive entertainment. Our bachelor’s degree in computer game development integrates the three game development sub-disciplines of game programming, game art and game design within a multi-disciplinary environment. The degree has a strong technical, practical and career focus, delivered by highly qualified and industry experienced academic staff in a seriously fun and creatively demanding studio environment at our Sydney and Canberra campuses. The position of Lecturer will contribute to teaching, learning and scholarship at AIE Institute. The Lecturer is responsible for undertaking undergraduate teaching and learning, scholarship, and service and engagement. Teaching responsibilities include scholarly approaches to the delivery of courses and innovative teaching and learning pedagogies.AIE Institute is seeking to appoint an academic member of staff who will collaborate to implement curricula that meet the Threshold Standards 2021 under the Higher Education Standards Framework and professional accreditation standards, where relevant. The Lecturer is also expected to provide academic advice and support to students within the policies and procedures of AIE Institute.This role includes teaching in the areas of game design and development including level design, interactive narrative design, quality assurance, gameplay testing, interface design, human computer interaction and user experience design, graphical user interface design, virtual and augmented reality technologies and game studies.The appointee will also be expected to contribute to game art and game programming majors, supervising teams as well as individual student projects and internships. Postgraduate qualification in the discipline area or closely related field
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in teaching and learning and in the discipline area, including at least two of the areas listed below:
- game design - level design - interactive narrative design - quality assurance and gameplay testing - critical game studies - game studies for wellbeing - human-computer interaction and user experience design - graphical user interface design - virtual and augmented reality technologies - game development and production - computer graphics using shaders - design and application of shaders - sound design for games - entrepreneurship and commercialisation in games.Demonstrated skills in tools and software packages relevant to the areas listed above
Proven ability to provide high quality teaching at undergraduate level, with a sound understanding of current issues in the discipline area
Proven track record of scholarly activities, publishing history or research
Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team
Experience in academic administration and willingness to support students
Proven track record in establishing and maintaining external relationships with industry or professional associations
Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and to work autonomously
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

PhD in the discipline area or related field
