Remote is seeking a System Administrator to join the team at the Department of Home Affairs. The System Administrator will be responsible for supporting Linux based systems to support the delivery and use of enterprise data and analytics platforms. They will administer systems using appropriate tools and techniques that conform to agreed process standards and industry specific regulations. Working in a diverse team environment, this will involve sharing outcomes and experience with others to support development and growth. This role sits within the AIT team which provides fit-for-purpose data analytics capabilities that reliably serve business use cases. The team employs contemporary and innovative tools and techniques to automate system administration tasks on enterprise analytic platforms. Part of this role is ensuring that system management activities align with standard approaches employed by the team, and that risks associated with system changes are appropriately managed and mitigated. Role DescriptionKey Responsibilities: Supports the planning, installation, maintenance and acceptance of new and updated system components and services. Follows defined procedures to meet service expectations, security requirements and other quality standards.Uses approved system management tools to collect load and performance statistics. Follows guidance to configure tools and/or create scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed services. Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards.Identifies and records operational issues, escalating where necessary. Monitors known issues and follows procedures to support their resolution. Provides appropriate status and other reports to specialists, users and managers.Supports the provisioning and configuration of system software in line with service objectives, following established procedures and under supervision where needed.Works collaboratively with teams of technology specialists, security professionals and systems administrators, within the organisation and with external partners.Mandatory Qualifications: Minimum 3 year's system administrator experience.Desirable Qualifications: Relevant tertiary and/or industry qualification (e.g. RHCSA, LFCS, Cert IV in ICT)Knowledge/Experience and tools: Required: Ability to support operational systems including; server provisioning and deployment, monitoring and performance, security and compliance, backup and recovery, troubleshooting and support, automation and scripting.Ability to integrate with domain services such as user authentication, certificate servers, enterprise logging and audit services, enterprise storage and backup solutions.Demonstrated ability to develop technical documentation and track work using collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.Experience troubleshooting IT systems and using logging tools such as Elastic Stack (ELK).Highly Desirable: Experience with continuous integration and delivery pipeline toolsets including GitLab, Artifactory, Jenkins, Docker, OpenShift or similar applications.Please contact me to discuss this role.
