In this multi-faceted role, you will use your high-level expertise in accounting, taxation, and financial policy to provide accurate and strategic advice that supports SLA's operations and ensures compliance. As well as being a technical expert, to succeed in this role you will need strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to lead, develop and mentor staff to create a client focussed and high performing team culture. The primary functions of the role include: Providing commercial taxation, accounting and financial policy support to the Agency on land development projects, including for joint venture and other commercial land arrangements; Reviewing land sale and development contracts and providing complex taxation advice in conjunction with tax and legal advisors internally and externally to the Agency; Developing and implementing financial and taxation policies and procedures for the Agency; Managing the Agency's taxation compliance activities and on-going statutory deliverables including for the National Tax Equivalent Regime (NTER), Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT); Research, analyse and interpret complex documents, such as contracts or legislation, and apply, document and educate others on complex financial matters; Preparation of Australian Taxation Office Private Binding Ruling requests, position papers and ad-hoc GST advice; Contributing to business analysis, systems development, implementation and continuous improvement of business systems and key financial processes; Development, implementation, maintenance and compliance of financial policies and procedures; Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; Managing a small team; Providing responses to ad-hoc requests by management; and Other tasks as required. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Experience in accounting or similar finance roles. Taxation experience highly desirable Tertiary qualification in a related field. This position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
