Eddystone Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise in the Intensive English Centre (IEC) during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
The suitable applicants should have highly developed skills and experience in teaching EAL/D Primary students across a range of ability levels from Pre Primary to Year 6. Applicants should be able to develop relationships and engage students, know how to effectively differentiate the curriculum for EAL/D students, and work collaboratively with all members of the school community.
Suitable applicants should be conscientious and dedicated Teachers who possess a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. They will ideally be actively involved both within the school and wider community, highly reflective about their teaching practice and committed to evidence-based decision making. A capacity and willingness to lead the development and delivery of school programs and priorities would be viewed favourably.
The suitable applicants would support the implementation of the school business plan, work and teach in a team environment and be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives. The learning environment you create should be challenging, caring and creative, while catering for a range of needs that sees all students progressing and achieving. You will ideally incorporate the effective use of information and communication technology (ICT) in your delivery of EALD programs.
For the suitable applicants, an excellent knowledge of both the EAL/D Progress Maps and the Australian Curriculum is highly desirable. You should be able to deliver content in an engaging and meaningful manner to instil in our students a passion for learning language and literacy. Suitable applicants should have the ability to teach English and knowledge of the second language acquisition process. Teachers should also display a sound understanding of how limited schooling and traumatic backgrounds can influence a child’s behaviour in an EAL/D classroom.
The IEC addresses the needs of refugees and other children with little or no English. The IEC provides these children with a nurturing environment to develop written and spoken English proficiency. Some arrive with no prior education. After 12 to 24 months, when these children have developed sufficient skills to participate effectively in mainstream schooling, they enrol in their local school. As Eddystone is one of only eight primary schools in Western Australia with an IEC, our students are drawn from a broad section of the northern metropolitan area. Teachers engage with a range of external services to support our students.
