Eurofins Environment Testing Australia is an Environmental testing network of fully accredited laboratories. With a staff of over 200 our laboratories are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and with Client Service Offices located in Adelaide, Darwin, Newcastle and Wollongong. We also operate field sampling services out of Melbourne and Sydney. We specialise in all areas of Environmental analysis, including Contaminated Soil, Sludge, Sediments, Leachate, Soil Vapour, Trade Waste Effluents, Sewage Effluents, Stack Emissions, Work Place Air, Ambient Air, Dust, Drinking Water, Surface Water run off, River & Stream Monitoring, Seawater, and Groundwater. - Full time, permanent position based in Girraween, NSW. - Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. Reporting to the Team Leader, the Asbestos Analyst will be responsible for the identification of asbestos fibres according to the ISO 17025 accredited laboratory test methods. This may be restricted to building materials only, or additionally be extended to soils with suitable training and experience. The role will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of airborne fibre monitoring samples in accordance with the laboratory test method. The term Asbestos Analyst will be interchangeable with the position title Asbestos Identifer/Counter, and an Asbestos Analyst may be competent in both asbestos identification and asbestos fibre counting. Key accountabilities will include but not limited to: - Performing routine asbestos analytical, physical tests and sample preparation as required. - Controlling own work flows. - Ensuring samples are tested in a timely manner, completed, and integrity of results maintained. - Ensuring correct methods are used and adhered to. - Calibrating and maintaining equipment, ensuring maintenance logs are kept up to date. - Ensuring correct quality control procedures are used and adhered to, including Asbestos Internal Quality Control sample analysis. - Identifying and reporting quality issues and implement the corrective and preventative actions. - Performing all of the analysis assigned by the section supervisor. - Monitoring, encouraging and supporting laboratory technicians as required. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following: - A minimum education level of a Certificate 4 in Laboratory Techniques or similar is typically required, however a person with previous experience in a similar laboratory role or related field may also be considered. - Following an initial period of training, a new analyst must show compliance with the internal quality control requirements outlined in SOP05 prior to enrolment in a Proficiency Testing program (i.e no less than 6 internal QC slides for airborne fibre analysis and no less than 8 samples for asbestos identification). - Training is ongoing until these initial criteria are met. Additionally, a satisfactory result during a proficiency testing round forms the minimum demonstration of competence to submit results by 'calculating' spreadsheets. - Progression to Level 5 can be made at the discretion of Asbestos Supervisor or Regional Technical Manager (with supporting evidence logged). - General preference and comfort in technical environments. - Desire to continually learn and improve. - Strong attention to detail and good observation skills. - Ability to be a hand on hard worker and 'doer'. - Good organisation skills.
