YHA Hobart provides ideal accommodation with 28 rooms and 110 beds, being the most centrally located traveller lodging in Hobart, just one block from the city's waterfront.
The hostel is conveniently situated within walking distance to the MONA museum ferry at Constitution Dock, Salamanca Place, and numerous bars, restaurants, and cafes.
About the role: YHA is seeking a full-time hands-on Shift Manager to join our management team in Hobart.
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations during your shift, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the property.
Your main duties will include providing exceptional service to our guests, supervising team members, and offering primary support.
As a key point of contact for both guests and staff, you will address any issues that arise, fostering a positive and welcoming environment.
As a vital member of our team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the management and operation of YHA, gaining valuable experience and growth opportunities alongside a team of skilled and engaging colleagues.
What your day will look like: Promoting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at the property and ensure that the property is representative of YHA values and mission.
Monitoring and managing daily operations including check-ins/outs, groups movements, activities and events.
Conducting regular inspections to maintain high standards of hygiene and safety and providing hands on support to the team.
Supervising team members on shift and ensuring they follow correct procedures.
Providing guidance, support, and training to team members as needed.
Handling guest inquiries, complaints, and requests in a professional and timely manner.
Preparing shift reports and communicating relevant information to the Property Manager and other team members.
Acting as the first point of contact in emergency situations, following established protocols.
Performing other relevant duties assigned by the Property Manager or Assistant Manager.
What are we looking for: A positive attitude and the ability to have fun while working.
Flexible availability to work a 24/7 roster, including overnight shifts as needed.
Previous experience in a supervisory or management position within the hospitality industry is preferred.
Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Passion for training and developing team members.
Proven experience in resolving problems effectively.
Skilled at managing challenging situations with professionalism.
Experience in overseeing inventory and managing stock levels.
