Legal Practitioner (Criminal Law)
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Practitioner to join our team at Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Legal Service. As a Legal Practitioner, you will have the opportunity to work with our experienced Principal Legal Officer and Director of Law (Criminal Law) to provide expert legal services to our clients.
Our ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the law, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You will also be required to travel to regional areas, therefore a current Queensland Driver Licence is essential.
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
* Alignment to the values and vision of ATSILS, including an appreciation of and sensitivity to the challenges our clients face in their fight for justice and equity;
* Admission as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland or holder of (or eligibility for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate;
* Capacity to provide high-level client services in Criminal Law proceedings, while ensuring exemplary case management standards;
* Proven high level of professional service in all aspects of Criminal Law, including adult and youth jurisdictions;
* In-depth working knowledge of the Youth Justice Act 1992 (as amended) and the Criminal Code 1899 (as amended);
* Preparedness to work after hours if necessary, and willingness to assist in the development of Court Support/Field Officers' and other staff members' training/education;
* Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
