The Senior Mental Health Clinician plays a senior role within a multidisciplinary mental health team, providing evidence-based clinical services and expert advice. This position offers mental health services, including assessments and interventions to promote the well-being, safety and mental health of adults in correctional centers.
Job Responsibilities
* Provide high-level clinical services, including complex cases, within a correctional environment with a multidisciplinary team focus.
* Offer clinical consultation, discipline-specific interventions, and assessments, including evaluations of self-harm or harm to others.
* Develop and contribute to the review of behavioral support and management plans.
* Work independently with minimal direct supervision to provide high-quality clinical services, exercising professional judgment in problem-solving and managing complex situations.
Key Accountabilities
* Be an expert resource for other staff, facilitating critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills through practice supervision.
* Maintain own registration and accreditation for professional requirements, including Board Supervision where necessary.
* Commit to professional practice by ensuring work within scope of practice and maintaining professional competency.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and sentence/case management activities.
Service Improvement
* Promote a supportive environment and willingness to share knowledge through active learning with staff, including graduates and students.
* Contribute to identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating quality and service improvement activities enhancing clinical care delivery.
Leadership, Collaboration and Work Unit Management
* Assist Team Leader with clinical advice, task allocation, and onboarding staff, including recruitment activities.
* Support collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including Psychological Services Unit and Queensland Health.
Qualifications and Requirements
For Psychologists: A tertiary degree qualification in Psychology from a recognised institution and registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) are mandatory.
For Social Workers: Membership eligibility with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) is required, dependent on completion of a University Level Social Work degree accredited by the AASW.
For Occupational Therapists: Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA) and a tertiary degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognised institution are mandatory.
