Position Overview:
As a Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating the design activities throughout the entire project lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the large, complex projects, from initial concept design to final completion of construction. Initially, this role will see you managing the design for a $50m Education project.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead the design process, providing strategic guidance and managing the design team to deliver high-quality design solutions that align with project objectives, budget, and timelines.
2. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other consultants to ensure seamless integration of design elements and coordination of deliverables.
3. Review and evaluate project design proposals, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, building codes, and industry standards.
4. Conduct design risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation measures to minimize design-related issues during construction.
5. Manage design budgets, tracking expenses, and providing regular reports to project stakeholders.
6. Foster a collaborative and innovative design culture within the team, promoting continuous improvement and sharing of best practices.
7. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and design methodologies, and apply relevant knowledge to enhance project outcomes.
Qualifications and Skills:
8. A background in Architecture or Construction.
9. Experience in design management, preferably within the commercial construction industry.
10. Proficiency with BIM software.
11. Proven track record of successfully managing large, complex design projects from concept through to completion.
12. Strong knowledge of architectural and engineering design principles, building codes, and construction standards.
13. Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
14. Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make timely decisions under pressure.
15. A keen eye for detail and a passion for delivering design excellence.
16. Knowledge of sustainable design practices and a commitment to incorporating sustainability into project outcomes.
