We are currently recruiting for an Urban Designer for our client, a Local Council based in Sydney.
This is an initial contract until January 2026 with a pay rate of $65 per hour + super for 35 hours per week.
WFH/Flexible working TBC.
This position will work closely with Council's strategic planners and urban designers to prepare the visual DCP documents, diagrams, and 3D models, while also setting style, format, and digital requirements for the public-facing platform.
Additionally, it'll support the team on various projects, including other planning and design policies, master plans, the 3D model project, the Design Review Panel, DAs and planning proposals Key Accountabilities Contribute to updating the Councils planning and design instruments, including producing sophisticated layouts, maps, diagrams, and 3D models.
Support the Design Review Panel by providing technical advice, attending meetings as an observer, and properly considering the Panel's recommendations in the planning assessment.
Design, coordinate and deliver urban design projects and studies, including design management of external consultancies (overseen by the Senior Urban Designer/Team Leader Urban Design) Provide strategic design advice and review of planning proposals, precinct and state significant developments.
Provide advice on urban design issues for development applications and appear as an expert witness on behalf of Council in the Land and Environment Court.
Candidate Requirements: Minimum of 4 years in Urban Design Tertiary Qualifications in Urban Design (or urbanism), either as undergraduate or post graduate in continuation from a base degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning or similar realted design field Understanding of the NSW planning system, development control policy (LEP, DCP), and its implications for local governments.
