About the position
This is a position working for the spinout company Proxima Bio, which is partially operating in WEHI.
An exciting opportunity exists for a Scientist/Senior Scientist to join a dynamic team leading the development of a new biologics-based technology in the spinout company Proxima Bio. The applicant will drive the development of the new technology platform and therapeutic assets. This will include the testing of novel therapeutics in cell-based models, generation of research tools and collaboration with the team’s protein engineering and preclinical biology teams. The candidate will be required to design mammalian cell constructs, generate cell lines, assess drug efficacy via in vitro cell assays using flow cytometry, immunoblotting and microscopy. They will also be responsible for co-ordinating contract research organisations to deliver key pieces of work for the company. The successful applicant will work alongside a supportive and multi-disciplinary team and build their research program with input from Dr Jason Brouwer (CSO), Dr Jonathan Bernardini (CEO) and Dr Amanda Woon (COO). Proxima Bio will be located in the Parkville precinct partly housed in WEHI and partly in the new Jumar biotech incubator.

Selection Criteria
Required Knowledge and skills:
* A PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline with expertise in cellular models of disease and therapeutic testing of drugs e.g. Cell Biology, Immunology, Cancer Biology, Infectious Disease, Inflammation
* Highly experienced with techniques including cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry, and immunoblotting
* Significant biotech/industry experience and/or an excellent academic record that has led to publications
Desirable knowledge and skills:
* Drug discovery and development experience
* Primary human cell culture experience
* Mass spectrometry experience
Personal Qualities
* Excellent organisation skills, attention to detail, and comprehensive documentation and record-keeping
* Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
* Good communication skills, and an ability to work both autonomously and co-operatively within a team environment
* Highly motivated with the ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable
* Interested in translational, goal-focussed research
Terms of appointment
This position is available for 16 months in a full-time capacity. After the 1st year of employment, there may be opportunity for further full-time employment at Proxima Bio.
Salary is commensurate with an industry role and is offered as a Research Officer Level A7-A8 ($104,744 - $108,453) or Senior Research Officer Level B1-B6 ($101,039.00-$135,568) depending on experience. Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available. Employees will also be eligible for share options in the spinout company.
