The Opportunity
As part of the Life of Mine (LOM) Studies & Exploration team at Northparkes, you will play a key role in supporting long-term planning and resource management. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this position will see you leading the geotechnical engineering aspects of our LOM studies and site projects. You will be instrumental in scoping, scheduling, and coordinating geotechnical work for Northparkes, ensuring the geotechnical aspects of the projects are completed to the highest standard.
In addition, you will oversee geotechnical mapping, core logging, and QA/QC processes, ensuring the accuracy of rock mass and structural data. Your proactive approach to risk analysis and geotechnical recommendations will be vital in minimising risk and driving the success of our mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate geotechnical work for Northparkes’ projects and Life of Mine (LOM) studies.
* Conduct rock mass analysis, define geotechnical properties, and provide geotechnical recommendations.
* Manage geotechnical risks proactively across site projects and the LOM schedule.
* Collaborate with internal teams, including Mine Operations, Ore Processing, and external stakeholders such as universities and consultants.
* Contribute to financial decision-making in major projects and procurement activities.
* Ensure accuracy and reliability in geotechnical mapping, core logging, and QA/QC processes.
Key Requirements:
* Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
* Extensive experience in underground mining operations, particularly in block cave mining methods.
* Strong expertise in geotechnical analysis, mapping, and risk management.
* Proficiency in mining and geotechnical software.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
* Strong technical writing and reporting abilities.
