About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists to take the next step in your career and be at the forefront of developing and optimising Alcoa’s long-term mine and closure plans.
Reporting to the Global Mine Planning Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our current and future operations and leveraging your expertise to ensure sustainable and efficient mining practices are achieved. From delivering mining plans for pits, haul roads and infrastructure, you will ensure that the plans developed are translated into actionable medium-term plans and align with the business purpose.
Your key activities and responsibilities will be:
1. Contributing to safe systems of work and providing capital project teams with mine plans that have adequate resolution to support the eventual transition through FEL 1 – 3 to execution.
2. Generation of data that includes pit optimisation, preliminary haul road alignments, crusher location selection, ore extraction sequence and fleet estimation.
3. Supporting with risk assessments and problem-solving workshops to develop a set of actions to close business gaps and enable the project to advance.
4. Drive alignment between the long term mine plan, medium term mine plans, and capital projects and providing relevant statistics that can support decision making.
5. Maintain single source of truth in ore inventory assessments between short-term, medium-term, long-term plans that considers timing of approvals and access to first ore.
6. Assisting in the development and maintenance of lead time calendars highlighting the time duration and critical path for each activity required to develop new mining areas.
7. Collaborating with the operational and regional leadership teams including environmental, community, cultural heritage, approvals, government affairs, mine operations and operational programs teams in generation of primary approvals to ensure sufficient allocation of resources to enable timely delivery of field surveys to support continuity of ore supply.
8. Identifying and managing development of mining avoidance zones.

What you can bring to the role
14. Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or Geoscience with the relevant mine planning experience.
15. Expertise across mine design and scheduling software packages (MineSight, MineMax, and Alastri preferred) with experience using Power BI and ArcGIS.
16. Your strong understanding of time usage models, haulage network design/optimisation and fleet estimation.
17. An analytical mind, a detail-oriented approach, a strong safety focus and passion for continuous improvement.
18. Your ability to work collaboratively and convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical personnel within operations, approvals, and capital project teams and their contractors and consultants.
19. You enjoy coaching and mentoring others with proven experience in empowering your team.
20. Willingness to travel to mining operations in the Darling Range as well as Alcoa’s refineries.
