Southern River College is seeking four (4) dedicated and enthusiastic Student Support Officers (SSO) to join their dynamic team in our Wellbeing Centre (WBC), Specialised Autism Learning Program (SALP) and The Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC).
We currently have the following positions available:

In the context of Wellbeing, the SSO will be working in a large, highly structured dynamic team with a focus on supporting the wellbeing needs of the Southern River College community.
A collaborative and consultative approach is highly desirable in-addition to the application of sophisticated interpersonal skills. Additionally, experience in supporting students and staff in processes including but not limited to attendance, engagement, risk management, incident management and emotional regulation is advantageous.
SSO’s would facilitate and deliver evidence based Social Emotional Learning programs in consultation with Heads of Year and Wellbeing Program Coordinators.
SSO’s will be required to establish and maintain effective communication and goal oriented relationships with external and internal stakeholders to support student outcomes. Knowledge and experience of working within the Upper School structures is advantageous but not required.
SSO’s will work collectively with the Wellbeing Team to organise and support Wellbeing initiatives within the Multitiered System of support model including whole school positive behaviour initiatives, Awareness days, Year Group specific events and Good Standing reward activities.
In the context of SALP and TLC, the SSO would collaborate closely with other staff, students, external agencies, and primary carers within the existing SALP and TLC teams to resolve barriers in the engagement and support of the learning needs of students. This role includes the support of students to meet educational outcomes through small group intervention.
The SSO should be capable of implementing a range of interventions, programs and initiatives that promote improved outcomes for students within our SALP and TLC programs. This may include mentoring, assisting in restoring attendance, assessing levels of student risk, inter-agency linkage and supporting students with social and emotional regulation skills. Further to this, the role requires the application of intervention strategies to provide a responsible and effective support service for students, families, and staff.
Previous training and experience working with students at educational risk and or with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) will be highly advantageous.
Successful applicants should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively and be able to prioritise to ensure tasks are completed within set deadlines. Applicants who possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skill, with the ability to maintain professional boundaries while adopting a student-centric approach that contributes to positive student outcomes will be highly regarded.
Experience and credibility in student engagement and transitions, case management, social and emotional learning program development, a background in student support and current professional learning, or the capacity to undertake targeted professional learning is highly desirable.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
