As a central agency of the Australian Government, the Department of Finance (Finance) plays an important role in assisting government across a wide range of policy areas to ensure its outcomes are met.
Finance supports the government’s ongoing priorities through the Budget process and fosters leading practice through the public sector resource management, governance and accountability frameworks. Finance plays a lead role in advising the government on many of its strategic priorities, including advancing public sector reform through the Smaller Government Agenda and providing advice to the government on optimal arrangements for the management and ownership of public assets. We do this through our professional and considered approach to providing advice, developing policy, delivering services and engaging with our clients and stakeholders.

The Department of Finance seeks to attract, develop and retain diverse, enthusiastic and high-performing employees. ELIGIBILITY ADVICE
14. Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.
15. Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain a minimum baseline security clearance, prior to commencement.
16. Roles are intended to be offered on a temporary basis only (non-ongoing specified term or s.26 temporary transfer at level), however existing ongoing APS employees may be offered an ongoing movement at level should an ongoing opportunity arise.
17. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled as a specified term vacancy for an initial period of up to 18 months. Specified term vacancies may be extended up to a maximum period of three years in total duration.
18. Any temporary s.26 transfer at level will be for an initial term of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension or conversion to ongoing movement at level.
19. Ongoing engagement or promotion under the Public Service Act 1999 are not possible through this recruitment register.
