This Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service provides a broad range of primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the region. This organisation also provides a range of family-focused Mental Health and Wellbeing services, as the lead agent for both headspace Mt Isa and the Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service.
Position Description:
Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) is a vocational training program for medical practitioners in communities throughout remote and rural Australia. As a targeted recruitment location,training is fully funded by the Australian Governmentand the four-year training program is delivered by Distance Education and Remote Supervision to Fellowship of the ACRRM and/or RACGP.
The General Practitioner will provide direct GP services to a growing client group and will assist with leadership based on the organisation model of care.
The General Practitioner will also play a pivotal role in:
o Clinical Governance – participation and continuous improvement of high-quality service delivery models.
o Service Development – support organisational growth and the development of the medical workforce, including supervision and support for GP Registrars and Medical students if certified/qualified.
o Medicare Income – provide sound and high-level clinical care and increasing Medicare Income e.g., 715, 721 and 723
Selection criteria:
o Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and knowledge of the health issues affecting these people.
o Understanding of Clinical Governance.
o Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care and primary health care strategies.
o Ability to lead and motivate a team of health professionals.
o Understanding of the processes of embedding continuous quality improvement into clinic practice through implementing regular auditing.
o Strong interpersonal skills.
o Knowledge and experience in the Medicare Benefits Schedule and its application in the ATSICCHS setting.
o Technology competence.
Qualifications & Experience:
o Qualified Medical Practitioner, holding unconditional current registration with AHPRA.
o Eligible for unrestricted Medicare Provider Number.
o Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity towards the social, economic, and cultural factors affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health.
o Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential.
o Satisfactory police check – no serious Criminal/Court record.
o Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card.
o Willingness to work flexible hours as required, including the requirement to travel (by road and small plane), work and stay overnight in remote areas.
