We are in an exciting growth phase and have an opportunity for an experienced R&D Design Engineer to join our innovative Research & Development team. About the Role Reporting to the Head of Research & Development, the Design Engineer will be instrumental in designing and building sophisticated test systems and equipment to evaluate additively manufactured heat exchangers. The role focuses on developing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or thermal systems, requiring significant expertise in scoping, designing, and constructing testing solutions.
Candidates with a strong background in sensors, data acquisition, wiring, and programming of controllers and actuators will be highly valued.
Additionally, the role involves procurement of test system components, and effective communication with stakeholders.
Other key responsibilities will also include: Design, develop, and build robust systems to evaluate the performance of advanced heat exchanger prototypes.Scope and develop complex test equipment involving mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and thermal components.Integrate sensors and data acquisition systems into test rigs for accurate performance monitoring and analysis.Use CAD software to create detailed designs of test equipment, with occasional analysis work as needed.Program controllers and actuators to ensure precision and repeatability in testing processes.Source and procure system components and materials, ensuring they meet stringent quality and design specifications.Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to update on project status and findings.Stay current with advancements in test equipment design, sensors, and data acquisition systems for continuous improvement.Contribute to R&D projects to advance industry knowledge and technology.Perform other duties, relevant to the position, as may be necessary.This is a full-time position with a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. Some flexibility in hours may occasionally be required due to the nature of R&D projects and our global client base.
About You You are an experienced Design Engineer with a strong R&D background, ideally within a test equipment development environment. We are seeking candidates who are passionate about hands-on design and construction, highly focused on technical detail, and able to work independently or as part of a high-performing team.
Conflux is seeking a passionate and pro-active team member with the ability to excel in our high performing teams. You will have the ability to engage with clients at all levels and possess excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.
Ideally you will have experience working on complex designs within an R&D environment within manufacturing, ideally in Aerospace, Automotive, or Semiconductor sectors.
You will have excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise work with a high attention to detail.

Personal Skills and Experience Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.Strong practical experience in designing and building test equipment with a focus on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and thermal systems.Expertise in sensor integration, data acquisition, and wiring for testing applications.Proficiency in programming controllers and actuators for automated testing setups.Familiarity with CAD software (CATIA, 3DExperience) and some experience in CFD and FEA is beneficial.Understanding of additive manufacturing processes and technologies.Working knowledge of MS Office.Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise work.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Location Conflux Technology is situated on the Deakin University, Waurn Ponds campus. Conflux operates on a 38-hour week Monday to Friday with flexible start and finish times. Due to the nature of additive manufacturing and our global client base, some work outside standard hours will be required from time to time.
