Role
Fundamentally, leading teachers must be highly skilled classroom practitioners to be able to support and develop other teachers. They undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school and to improve the curriculum program of a school. Leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which involves the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge,
practice and professional engagement in others. Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school¿s education program. Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching, learning and wellbeing in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Within Ararat College Leading Teachers will fulfil the following positions:
· Year 7 Leader
· Year 8/9 Leader
· Senior School Leader
Each Leading Teacher will be expected to use real time school level data (EG XUNO, CATs, Learning Behaviours, Attendance, VCE, VCE VM progress) to consistently monitor for impact in relation to the learning and wellbeing of their designated year level/s. This will include ensuring each Sub School Team meets at least fortnightly to adopt this case management approach.
Responsibilities
Overview The successful transition of Year 7 students into Ararat College remains a high priority of the school. The Year 7 Leader will be responsible for ensuring this occurs working closely with all stakeholders: students, families, local primary schools and staff. The learning and wellbeing of Year 7 students will be a key responsibility of this role, working closely with both the Assistant Principal Junior School, Year 7 Coordinator and Wellbeing Team.

Responsibilities of the role As a Leading Teacher ¿ Year 7 Leader your duties include but are not limited to the following:
· Oversee and directly manage Year 7 and any activities that relate to it · Provide regular Year 7 updates to the school¿s Leadership Team · Directly assist the Leadership Team to implement the school¿s Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan · Undertake and provide appropriate professional development to assist themselves and all staff to improve student learning · Be a positive role model to all staff and provide support where necessary · Assist, coach, direct, and monitor Year Level Coordinator and Classroom Teachers and provide feedback. · Promote cooperation between teachers in planning, sharing and discussion of programs, practices and professional learning
· Arrange, organise and chair Student Support Group meetings when appropriate · Liaise with Learning Specialists, Disability Inclusion and Wellbeing Teams to develop programs and support for students with special needs. Review and design programs to develop social and teamwork skills for identified students · Oversee and organise year level camp, excursions and activities within Year 7 · Attend Leadership meetings · Oversee attendance and act with chronic non-attenders · Organise and attend student/parent information evenings where appropriate · Promote positive working relationships between students and staff · Support classroom teachers in discipline matters · Ensure regular and effective communication with parents regarding learning, wellbeing and discipline matters · Highlight those students at risk of suspension or expulsion and communicate with stakeholders · Organise the information handbook for junior students and parents · Implementation of programs and supports to help those students recognised as being at risk · Oversee the correction and distribution of Year 7 student reports · Assist teachers and coordinators in the process of identifying students with learning concerns · Ensure attendance at Year 7 Information Evening and any events specific to Year 7 · Attendance at EOY Presentation Night · Manage allocated PDP group · Be responsible for coordinating the successful transition of Grade 6 students into Secondary School, including the; o communication of relevant information to College staff, particularly teachers regarding transition and interventions o work closely with primary schools and families to provide a supported transition process o organisation of the Ararat College Expo and Statewide Transition Day
Who May Apply
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
Location Profile
Ararat College has a current enrolment of just over 335 students, this will increase to over 370 in 2025. Students are transported to school on six country buses, with a variety of primary schools feeding into the College. The integration of students from small primary schools into a relatively large secondary is a challenge, which Ararat College believes it handles well.
