The role: This position is based on Ward K3 within the Maternity and Gynaecology Service, where you will have the chance to care for primarily surgical patients allocated to our flexible surge beds. The ward features eight beds that expand during periods of high hospital activity, allowing you to practice and enhance your skills across a diverse range of disciplines. In this role, you will contribute to the exceptional culture of our K3 team, renowned for delivering quality, compassionate care to women from various medical specialties. Your responsibilities will include providing efficient, person-centred care that meets the needs of patients and their families, acting as an advocate to help them make informed decisions, and ensuring they understand clinical interventions and service delivery processes. You will also make appropriate referrals for patients’ discharge needs and offer supervision and mentoring to staff and students. The position may involve redeployment to the K3 gynaecology beds or other areas within John Hunter Hospital, ensuring a varied and enriching experience. Our commitment to your professional development is demonstrated through an orientation day and ongoing support from a Clinical Nurse Educator. You will also have access to regular educational opportunities provided by the Maternity and Gynaecology Service’s education team and broader hospital-wide education resources.
