About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Mental Health Occupational Therapist to join our clients team at a public hospital in Southern Regional New South Wales. In this role, you will work closely with older adults, focusing on providing high-quality mental health care tailored to the unique needs of this population. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing therapeutic programs aimed at improving the mental well-being and daily functioning of older patients.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of older adults to identify their therapeutic needs.
* Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and therapeutic interventions to enhance the mental health and quality of life for older patients.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, social workers, and family members, to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
* Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding mental health issues, coping strategies, and available resources.
* Monitor, evaluate, and document patient progress, adjusting care plans as needed.
* Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and contribute to the development of mental health programs within the hospital setting.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in mental health occupational therapy, particularly for aged care.
* Advocate for the mental health needs of older adults within the hospital and the wider community.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Proven experience working as an Occupational Therapist with a focus on mental health, specifically with older adults.
* Demonstrated experience in aged care settings, preferably within a public hospital.
* Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting older adults and effective therapeutic interventions.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Compassionate, patient-centered approach with a commitment to improving the mental health outcomes of older adults.
