About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Commercial this position is responsible for providing commercial advice to the SSN Sustainment program providing commercial management of the SSN contracts. Manage and administer the contract in its current form and negotiate the follow on contract with the Commonwealth of Australia (the customer) represented by Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG).
The role will balance the needs of all stakeholders that results in NSSG and RAN achieving utility, but at the same time ensuring ASC’s commercial position is protected and commercial risks mitigated.. This position will work closely with and maintain positive and collaborative professional working relationships with a wide range of ASC and NSSG stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Accountable for the authorisation or recommendations to senior management) of Head Contracts including quotes and contract changes in accordance with the authorised company delegations
Accountable for timeliness and accuracy of commercial advice to the Head of Commercial and SSN Sustainment program management.
Accountable for reporting and advising on ASC's compliance with key contractual obligations
Accountable for training relevant parts of ASC on the SSN Sustainment contract
Accountable for the effective contract administration of the SSN Sustainment contract and relevant parts of the ISSC
Ensure the Commercial department’s knowledge bank is developed and maintained
Ensure the effective recruitment, training and development of the direct reports to this role
Through contract negotiations improve the alignment of commercial terms with SSN Sustainment program objectives
About you
Bachelor of Commerce, Business or a related degree with appropriate experience and an understanding of commercial principles; or Bachelor of Laws with a current practicing certificate in an Australian jurisdiction.
A minimum of five years’ experience at a senior level in contract management or a commercial role
Exceptional negotiation skills
Proven management of complex contract implementation
Ability to develop new, negotiate and amend existing contractual terms and conditions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to succinctly distil and express complex matters for management and stakeholder review
Training and team development skills
Defence industry experience preferably in maritime (submarine) operations – desirable
Post admission experience in private practice or an in-house legal role – desirable
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
