Our team
The Southern Positioning Augmentation Network (SouthPAN) is a joint initiative of the Australian and New Zealand Governments that provides Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) services for Australia and New Zealand. Geoscience Australia as the Australian Government lead agency, is working in collaboration with Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand on the development, deployment, and operation of SouthPAN, the first SBAS in the Southern Hemisphere.
SouthPAN is a Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) comprised of reference stations, telecommunications infrastructure, computing centres, signal generators, and satellites that provide improved positioning and navigation services in Australia, New Zealand, and its maritime region.
SouthPAN has an expected value of $7.6 billion over 30 years for Australia and New Zealand, based on the tested applications of the program.
The role
The Project Scheduler is responsible for managing the SouthPAN Integrated Master Schedule for the SouthPAN Program and schedule management across the project’s sub schedules. This includes populating schedules with work and resources; managing intra- and inter-dependencies; performing critical path analyses; performing schedule risk analysis; and producing schedule and resource performance reports. The Project Scheduler reports to the SouthPAN Project Manager and is part of the virtual project team located across Canberra and Wellington. They will work closely with cross functional stakeholders including project officers, systems engineers, and external project stakeholders.
In this role you will:
* Provide expertise and technical knowledge in scheduling to project management staff and stakeholders.
* Contribute to the planning of short-term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives.
* Assess Contractor performance through detailed schedule analysis.
* Evaluate the effectiveness of risk management and risk assessment activities within sphere of responsibility.
* Produce high quality, integrated schedules and reports in collaboration with project managers on respective scope elements.
* Conduct executive level briefing and routine schedule reporting.
* Perform research and analysis of schedules to make decisions that involve complex or escalated issues, longer-term planning and liaison with other sections on policy, project or operational issues.
* Anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary virtual team across Australia and New Zealand.
To be successful in the role you will:
* Apply your experience and knowledge of project schedule management to provide advice and support to the Project team.
* Manage the routine updating of the Integrated Master Schedule and project schedules to ensure that schedules are an accurate reflection of actual progress and support task management.
* Source and apply information on standards based or best practice approaches to schedule management to support critical path analysis and schedule risk analysis (e.g. Monte Carlo).
* Reschedule and reorganise work to reflect changes in priority or available resourcing.
* Collaborate internally to seek cross functional input in the development of schedules and supporting artefacts.
* Monitor the Project against plans; manage priorities and agree adjustments to milestones as required.
* Identify issues and problems and work to resolve them; identify risks and uncertainties and communicate these to the Project team.
Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications
* Relevant certifications and/or qualifications in the field of project management scheduling (e.g. PMI-SP).
* 5+ years of experience working in complex projects or government capital acquisition/procurements.
* Demonstrated experience with developing and maintaining schedules for complex projects using Microsoft Project or equivalent programs (Open Plan Professional, Primavera etc).
* Demonstrated experience with the use of task planning software including JIRA, MS Planner or equivalent.
* Understanding of the System Engineering Life Cycle.
