Fernlea Community Care is a small organisation that has a big impact in its local community, delivering support services to people with a life-limiting illness in the South-Eastern region of Melbourne.We specialise in providing respite care to our guests at centres in Emerald and Pakenham, in-home support care for people throughout the east of Melbourne and a community charity shop.Fernlea is embarking on a new 3-year Strategic Plan to expand our services to more of our community. To support our growth journey, Fernlea is looking to strengthen the Board with new ideas and skills and is seeking a President.As a volunteer President, you will join a supportive Board team with lots of opportunities to contribute and to utilise your skill base.As Board President your role will entail:Governance:Provide Leadership to the organisation.Ensure (in partnership with the Board) that the organisations objectives, goals, and mission are being followed.Work with the CEO to ensure (in partnership with the Board) that the organisation develops the appropriate direction.Work with the CEO to ensure (in partnership with the Board) that the organisation operates in an ethically, environmentally, and socially responsible fashion.Oversee (in partnership with the Board) the production of a Strategic Plan for the organisation.Oversee (in partnership with the Board) the regular review and development of the Strategic Plan.Meetings:Ensure that appropriate standing orders are in place.With the Secretary and the CEO, prepare the agenda in advance of the meeting.Chair Board meetings according to Standing Orders.Rule on issues of meetings procedure not covered in the Standing Orders.Report to the Annual General Meeting about the organisation.Chair General Meetings according to Standing Orders.Administrative & Management:Chair the Executive Board between Board meetings.Serve on Sub-committees as required.Liaise with Sub-committee chairs and report to the Board where appropriate.Ensure that appropriate recruitment policies and procedures are in place for CEO and other staff.Oversee the recruitment of the CEO.Ensure that appropriate personnel policies and procedures are in place for CEO and other staff.Oversee the annual performance review of the CEO.Oversee the succession of the CEO.Oversee the management of the business of the Board.Oversee the management of the recruitment, induction, and training of Board members (in partnership with the Board).Oversee the management (in partnership with the Board) of the assessment, review, and renewal of the Board.Oversee the management of the organisation’s grievance procedures.Ensure the harmony of Board deliberations.Manage (in partnership with the Board) the succession of the position of Chair.Serve as liaison with the CEO and, through them, to the staff.In consultation with the CEO, report to the Board on staff management issues.In consultation with the CEO, draw up CEO succession policy.Media:Serve as spokesperson for the organisation as appropriate (See Marketing, Media & Communications Policy).Promotion:Promote the organisation with stakeholders and in the community as opportunities arise.Negotiation:Work with the CEO in negotiation with other organisations; report to the Board.Legal:Oversee staff to ensure that:the modes of performance of all legal requirements are featured in the procedure manual.the performance of all legal requirements is reported to the Board.the performance of all legal requirements is fully documented.Ensure that all legal requirements are met.Finance:With the Treasurer, oversee the CEO to ensure that the organisation’s financial control procedures are adequate and that risk management strategies are in place.Other duties:As for Ordinary Board members.You will require business acumen, experience as a CEO, General manager or previous President roles.We welcome all applications while particularly looking for President applicants with a medical / clinical / gerontologist expertise, commercial / strategy backgrounds and or community services / not-for-profit experience.Previous experience as a Director is required.
