Job Description
The mission of the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre (QAEMT) is to deliver outstanding musical theatre education that transforms, inspires, and empowers individuals to take the ‘lead role’ in their story, and ensures they have the knowledge and skills to adapt and deliver in a way that benefits all. Since its commencement in 2011, the Musical Theatre program at Griffith University has grown into one of the leading training organisations in Australia for producing exceptional performers and graduates from the Academy can be seen in leading, understudy, and ensemble roles in theatre, film, and on television across the world.
QAEMT is seeking an experienced Lecturer (Level B) in Musical Theatre dance to support high-quality teaching and to carry out activities to maintain and develop scholarly and professional activities across dance within the Musical Theatre discipline.
The ideal candidate will be able to teach jazz, tap and/or ballet, and have considerable professional experience as a musical theatre choreographer.
This teaching-focused position will commence in Trimester 1, 2025 with the successful candidate required to undertake full academic responsibilities and related administration for the coordination of courses, programs and associated student activities – including regular use of University IT systems to do so.
On campus, face-to-face teaching is required and work patterns for the part-time position is expected to reflect the teaching requirements of the role. Teaching focused Lecturers are principally engaged with a 70% teaching profile with the remaining work allocation assigned to research/scholarship and service.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
* Foster an outstanding student experience and encourage active participation and engagement in learning and teaching across the spectrum of the University’s undergraduate, and postgraduate program suite facilitating high quality, student-centred learning activities.
* Support high quality learning and teaching outcomes for students evidenced by technology enhanced learning, problem-oriented, authentic learning and assessment practices.
* Continuously improve teaching practice through professional development and critical reflection informed by a range of evaluation approaches.
* Provide educational contributions through responsibility for academic courses, including undertaking responsibilities aligned with the role of course convenor.
* Contribute to the enhancement of the School/Department/Academy standing and reputation by promoting educational activities with external communities.
This is a continuing, (0.8FTE) part-time position and will be primarily based at the Griffith University South Bank campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations. Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full-time equivalent base salary for a Lecturer (Level B) in the range $110,464 - $131,180 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $129,243 - $153,481 per annum.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold:
* A doctoral or masters qualification or
* Equivalent accreditation and standing with 6+ years of experience and/or
* Significant progress towards completion of a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or field.
You will also have:
* Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality teaching and to engage students effectively.
* Proven ability to develop and implement innovative curriculum and teaching materials.
* Demonstrated experience in providing academic support and mentoring to students.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and engagement in scholarly activities relevant to teaching.
* The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.
* A well-established artistic/choreographic identity within the Musical Theatre industry.
* A commitment to making performance in Queensland matter, both state-wide and as a pivot-point and partner in a region that embraces Australasia, Oceania and East, South and Southeast Asia.
* Demonstrated leadership with the ability to inspire and motivate people to be as engaged with physicality as they are able, both individually and collectively.
* In line with the University's strategic drive to increase inclusion and equity, identified expertise that speaks to encouraging and supporting students of different abilities or of diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly First Nations, would also be advantageous.
