NRG Gladstone Operating Services (NRGGOS) is currently seeking to appoint a permanent full time Senior Plant Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineering & Projects department, working a 40-hour week on a 9-day fortnight basis. The Gladstone Power Station remains Queensland's largest single power station with 1680MW of flexible generating capacity, and supplies power to the Queensland electricity network and Boyne Island Aluminium Smelter through a long-term power supply agreement. The purpose of the Senior Mechanical Plant Engineer role is to provide ongoing technical, process and engineering support for the Units, Station and Infrastructure Plant Engineers with respect to resolving relevant mechanical technical issues and developing forward strategies. Some key criteria are: Increase focus on plant wide performance, station capacity and operational improvement. Improve the working relationship and communication between operations and maintenance. Lead and mentor graduate and junior engineers by reviewing their design output for compliance to site and engineering standards. Providing increased technical expertise across whole of site plant and processes. Leadership of plant improvement projects. Strategic input to life of plant issues. This position will provide opportunity for the right candidate to develop their career into the front-line Units, Station, or Infrastructure Plant Engineer roles when such opportunities arise. To be effective in the role, the candidate will require strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to influence and drive plant performance improvement outcomes across the business. The successful applicant will have a Bachelor of Engineering Mechanical and have CPEng and or RPEQ certified. Qualifications in power generation and Engineering and Risk management, partnered with 5+ years supervisory experience in heavy industry would be highly regarded. Additionally, NRG is looking for a suitable candidate who has a high level of power station knowledge and experience, problem solving knowledge and proven ability in applying investigative techniques. The successful applicant will be required to have an understanding of workplace health and safety, and the ability to promote and maintain a safe work environment. As well as excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, and understanding of risk management principles.
