A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months.This merit list or pool may be used to fill other vacancies in Townsville.Assistant Director - Financial AccountingWe are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant who will provide high-level support, advice, and technical expertise to the Director – Finance/Chief Finance Officer and partner with the Reef Authority’s executive and management teams in regard to financial accounting responsibilities and advice.As the Assistant Director – Financial Accounting, you will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements, coordination of external audit and end-of-year processes, management of taxation obligations, cash management, financial asset management, system accounting, and the preparation of reconciliations and producing accurate and timely financial information to management and the Department of Finance.You will provide leadership, direction, and coaching to ensure staff have the skills and knowledge to effectively achieve business objectives and meet deliverables.The key duties of the position include:Key Responsibilities:Provide timely financial and system accounting expertise through the delivery of value-adding services, advice, and insight to managers.Maintenance and control of all financial and asset records, preparation of all requisite taxation and financial accounting requirements.Coordinate and prepare the Central Budget Management System (CBMS) requirements regarding cash management and actuals reporting.Coordinate and prepare Annual Financial Statements conforming to external audit requirements.Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex and/or sensitive issues and negotiate and influence outcomes to achieve Reef Authority objectives.Provide expert advice on accounting and finance issues as required and contribute to the development of the Reef Authority’s financial management strategy and internal controls to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation.Manage special projects as required and encourage adherence to prescribed policies and procedures.Provide leadership and coaching to support the small financial accounting team to achieve positive outcomes.To succeed in this role, you will bring:A tertiary qualification in business, commerce, or accounting and a CPA or CA professional qualification.A minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience in financial accounting, including preparing financial statements, managing audits, and working with large ERP systems.Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities. You’ll be able to clearly communicate complex financial information to a wide range of stakeholders.A proven ability to lead, coach, and empower a team, fostering collaboration and achieving business objectives.Adaptability.
