Key Responsibilities:
* Translate business questions into analytical requirements and identifies analytical techniques (including machine learning) to deliver business insights and solutions
* Partner with business stakeholders to develop an understanding of the business context, needs and problems relating to assigned project areas
* Perform data ETL as required to deliver modelling across a range of varied/large data sets
About this role:
This is a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract.
The Data Scientist is part of the Data, Analytics and AI team, which is a centre of excellence for big data and advanced analytics within Ampol.
This is a centralised data team serving a diverse range of problem spaces within the business across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
You would be responsible for model development and deployment end-to-end, including ongoing maintenance and governance.
Day to day, the role will be a mixture of business strategy and technical delivery.
You can expect to be partnering with different business units and deep diving into a problem space, working to drive business decisions via modelling and analysis.
A key aspect of this role is working in collaboration with the business to understand their requirements and develop models to meet those needs.
We'd love it if you have:
3+ years in technical capacity delivering machine learning and other advanced analytics projects in business context
Expertise working with structured and unstructured data, in a big data platform
Experience using analysis to deliver business insights and solutions
Strong Expertise in Python, and/or R
Ability to write SQL and work with relational databases
Machine learning techniques including classification, predictive modelling, time Series Analysis, Unsupervised Learning
Strong understanding of statistics, regression, and experimental design
Able to use data visualisation toolsets (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, RShiny, Dash)
Nice to Have:
Experience using Spark, Hadoop, or other distributed computing frameworks
Experience with Microsoft Azure and Dataiku platforms
Able to work via command line / shell commands
Experience in managing and deploying code through Git
Industry experience in retail, marketing, or fuel/commodities markets
Experience with geo-spatial databases and analysis
