Position Overview: As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be pivotal in designing, developing, and implementing advanced manufacturing systems and equipment. The role requires a hands-on, innovative approach to solving complex engineering challenges and ensuring seamless integration with other disciplines, including mechatronics, electrical, and systems engineering. This position offers the opportunity to directly contribute to the growth and success of Kite Magnetics’ cutting-edge manufacturing processes. Key Responsibilities: Mechanical Design and Development: Design and develop robust and scalable manufacturing systems, including custom tooling, fixtures, and production process equipment. Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and specifications for mechanical components and assemblies. Ensure designs meet performance, safety, quality, and systems requirements and are optimised for manufacturability and maintainability. Verification and Validation: Develop and execute verification and validation plans to confirm the status of requirements at stage gates. Conduct mechanical performance analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration, as required. Build prototypes of mechanical systems and components for demonstration, inspection and testing. Implement design improvements based on test results and feedback from cross-functional teams. Manufacturing Systems Integration: Collaborate with mechatronic, electrical, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with automated manufacturing processes. Develop and validate mechanical systems to ensure compatibility with electrical and control systems. Participate in cross-disciplinary design reviews to address integration challenges and improve system performance. Process Optimisation and Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reliability, and scalability through innovative mechanical designs. Implement lean manufacturing principles and advanced automation technologies into mechanical systems. Support the transition from prototype to production, ensuring smooth implementation of new manufacturing systems. Compliance and Safety: Ensure all mechanical designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines. Promote a culture of safety in the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing systems. Mentoring and Team Development: Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to junior engineers and technicians, fostering their professional growth and skill development. Share knowledge and best practices to build team expertise and promote a collaborative learning environment. Encourage innovation and creativity within the team, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and values. Requirements Qualifications/Skills: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Extensive knowledge of ANSYS mechanical, structural and thermal analysis. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software. DFMEA, PFMEA and ISO 12100 risk assessment development. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on detail-oriented, complex systems design. Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and production equipment. Design for manufacturing, assembly, reliability, serviceability, and maintenance. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design and engineering, preferably within manufacturing systems, automation, or related industries. Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing complex mechanical systems, including custom tooling and automation equipment. Proven experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
