Role Purpose The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for leading the design, architecture, and requirements engineering for EPE’s contributions to the Roo-ver Mission. They will provide technical leadership to the EPE team, ensuring seamless integration, testing, and verification of mission components within the broader ELO2 framework. Working closely with the Head of Innovation & Engineering, the Principal Systems Engineer will align EPE’s technical contributions with mission objectives, driving the mission's success through strategic guidance, technical oversight, and stakeholder engagement. This role also involves collaboration with the ELO2 Technical Director and consortium partners, fostering partnerships with key stakeholders such as the Australian Space Agency and NASA, and representing EPE in technical reviews and consortium engagements. Reporting to the Head of Innovation & Engineering this full-time role is based at EPE’s Headquarters in Spring Hill, Brisbane, with potential travel to partner locations as required. Key Responsibilities Technical Direction Lead in the development and refinement of system design, architecture, and requirements for EPE’s contributions to the Roo-ver Mission. Ensure alignment with mission objectives, technical standards, and stakeholder expectations. Collaborate with the ELO2 Technical Director and consortium members to integrate EPE’s contributions into the broader mission framework. Team Leadership Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high performance and technical excellence. Coordinate team activities to meet project milestones, deliverables, and quality standards. Integration, Testing, and Verification Oversee the integration of EPE’s systems and components into the Roo-ver Mission, ensuring compatibility and functionality. Plan, conduct, and document testing and verification activities, addressing any issues or risks identified during the process. Stakeholder Liaison Serve as the primary technical liaison for EPE with ELO2 partners, including universities, SMEs, and other stakeholders. Engage with external stakeholders such as the Australian Space Agency and NASA, ensuring alignment and effective communication of technical progress and requirements. Represent EPE at consortium meetings, technical reviews, and other relevant forums. Compliance and Standards Ensure all activities comply with relevant standards and regulations. Maintain documentation and reporting to meet project and stakeholder requirements. Obtain and maintain eligibility for Working with Children Checks and hold a Blue Card. Additional Activities Support the Head of Innovation & Engineering in other activities to enhance the success of the Roo-ver Mission. Stay informed of advancements in robotics, space systems engineering, and related fields to integrate innovative approaches into the project. Skills and Experience Essential: Extensive experience in systems engineering, preferably in the space, robotics, or defence industries. Proven ability to lead the design, architecture, and requirements development for complex technical systems. Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of successfully leading technical teams. Demonstrated experience in system integration, testing, and verification processes. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement. Eligibility to undertake Working with Children Checks and hold a Blue Card. Desirable: Experience working on collaborative, multidisciplinary projects involving multiple stakeholders. Familiarity with space exploration missions or projects, including knowledge of relevant technical and operational standards.
