This senior Technology leadership role at Westpac focuses on quality controls, automation, governance, and leading Quality Assurance teams within the Customer Engagement business. Key responsibilities include proactive communication, excellent test management across various streams, and working with multiple scrum teams and traditional waterfall projects.
This role is focused on the development of new capabilities in Quality Assurance that will modernise Customer Engagement and affect a strategic shift to modular banking across Westpac and St George brands. A key accountability of the role is to attract, recruit & retain top-tier technical talent.
The role reports into a broader Chief Engineer role that leads developing and implementing engineering & DevOps strategies and technical standards that align with Westpac & Customer Engagement goals, collaborates with senior technical leadership to define technical roadmaps and contributes to long-term strategic planning.
Main role and responsibilities are:
Leadership : Provide strong technical leadership to a team of automation engineers providing guidance on automation best practice and promoting a collaborative and engaging work environment. Enable mentorship & career development guidance to a highly technical workforce. Quality Assurance Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive Quality Assurance strategy for the Customer Engagement technology portfolio aligned with Westpac's technology standards & goals, ensuring maximum test coverage and efficiency in the software development life cycle. Framework Development: Lead the design, implementation and/or maintenance of scalable and robust test automation frameworks that align with industry best practice and accommodate a diverse application architecture. Tool Selection and Integration: Evaluate, select, and integrate appropriate testing tools and technologies to enhance the automation process, ensuring compatibility with existing Customer Engagement systems and applications. Technical Excellence : Maintain a high standard of technical excellence within the team through embedding Quality Assurance standards and processes. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation & growth. Execution and Monitoring: Manage the execution of automated test suites, monitor test results, and collaborate with teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly. Reporting and Analysis: Establish mechanisms for generating and analysing test automation reports, providing insights into software quality and driving data-informed decisions for improvement. Collaboration: Foster collaboration with cross-functional teams, including developers and quality assurance resources, to integrate automated testing seamlessly into the software development process. Talent Acquisition : Attract, recruit & retain top-tier technical talent with a strong emphasis on building a onshore permanent workforce. Lead efforts to build a diverse, high performing team. Partnerships : Manage relationships with vendors and third-party service providers ensuring effective delivery and adherence to SLAs. Lead in contract negotiation & vendor performance management. Ensure cost optimisation by continuously seeking cost-savings opportunities and efficiency improvements in vendor relationships. Technical Delivery : Work closely in collaboration with delivery management, Technology Domain Owners & senior business stakeholders from ideation phase to overseeing agile technical project planning, execution and delivery and ensuring adherence to timelines, quality standards and budgets. What do I need?
Proven experience in technical leadership roles, with track record of successfully building strong Quality Assurance teams and embedding processes, tools and Quality Assurance ways of working. Strong technical background with expertise in relevant test automation languages, tools and technologies. Solid understanding of project methodologies and tools.
