Legal Practitioner (Criminal Law) Position at Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Legal Service
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Legal Practitioner (Criminal Law) to join our team at Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Legal Service. As a key member of our organization, you will provide expert information directly to clients and external stakeholders about client matters.
About Us:
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Legal Service is a not-for-profit, community-based organization that delivers innovative, professional criminal, civil, and family law services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients throughout Queensland. We have 300 staff members and a specialist Through Care service to complement our legal services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide high-level client services in Criminal Law proceedings
* Ensure exemplary case management standards
* Deliver professional services in all aspects of Criminal Law, including adult and youth jurisdictions
* Analyze legislation and stay up-to-date with changes
* Develop Court Support/Field Officers' and other staff members' training/education
Requirements:
* Admission as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland or holder of (or eligibility for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate
* Demonstrated knowledge of diversionary alternatives available to Police/Magistrates/Judges
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Requirements:
* Ability to use Microsoft Office in a Windows networked environment
* Mobility, access, and safety requirements, including a current Queensland Driver Licence and willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check
Candidates must be prepared to disclose misconduct that prevents an ATSILS Security clearance. A preliminary check can be discussed with the HR Manager after a candidate has been shortlisted for interview.
