Exhibition and Display Installation Assistant ( Casual ) Library and Cultural Collections Casual HEO2 – HEO3 ($39-$41 per hour plus 11.5% Superannuation) Hobart The Opportunity Working for the Library at the University of Tasmania can be a rewarding experience.The environment is typically collaborative and supportive, fostering a strong sense of community among staff, students, and faculty.Employees often appreciate the opportunity to engage with diverse collections and contribute to the academic and cultural life of the university.We are seeking an Expression of Interest for casual Exhibition and Display Installation Assistant within the Library and Cultural Collections department of the Academic Division.This is a rolling recruitment period, and applicants are encouraged to apply at any time.Hours and requirements vary depending on current casual availabilities and exhibition install demand.The role requires some after hours and weekend work.Vacancies arise sporadically and we will be in touch only when these opportunities come up.Core Role Responsibilities Under supervision, assist with the hands-on installation and deinstallation of exhibitions and artwork at Plimsoll Gallery and off-site locations.Under supervision, assist with exhibition preparation, including the packing and unpacking of artworks, exhibition technology, and lighting.Always maintain compliance with UTAS workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures when performing manual handling tasks, including the loading and unloading of crates and heavy items, and perform routine manual duties (including painting walls).Assist in the organisation of storage areas and gallery spaces, ensuring cleanliness and tidiness Ensure compliance with established procedures and frameworks for Exhibitions/Collections and the handling of artworks.Communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, artists, and other key stakeholders to safely achieve project objectives.What We're Looking For Experience in art handling and safe hands-on installation of complex exhibitions and displays following Work Health Safety principles for manual handling, working at heights, and complying with safe work procedures.Physical capability to repeatedly lift and move heavy, awkward objects, with the ability to safely perform manual handling tasks relevant to the role.The ability to work to deadlines and to problem-solve consultatively under pressure.Strong interpersonal, organisation, and communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to work in teams and collaborate with multiple stakeholders respectfully and reliably.Demonstrated capability to continually learn and adapt new knowledge, skills, technology, and techniques to meet evolving needs applicable to galleries and museums.Preferred minimum Certificate III level qualification in either one of visual arts, trades, design or working towards a comparable qualification; and/or equivalent experience.Other Position Requirements A current First Aid certificate, or the willingness to attain one Travel may be required between campuses Current drivers' licence How to Apply: Your application should be a maximum of a two-page letter outlining your interest in the role, skills, capabilities, and experience.For further information about this position, please contact Jane Barlow, Exhibitions and Program Coordinator, ****** or 03 6226 4353 Position Description - Exhibition and Display Installation Assistant (Casual).docx Applications close 11:55pm, Sunday, 1st December 2024
