Psychologist / Social Worker - North Queensland Region, Education
Department of Education QLD – Mount Isa QLD
Are you passionate about supporting young people in a rural community?
The Department of Education in the North Queensland region is looking for Psychologist/Social Workers to join our school-based wellbeing team.
If you are interested in becoming a part of this multi-disciplinary early-intervention service and making an incredible difference in the lives of young people in an educational setting, then this permanent full-time role is for you.
About the Department of Education
The Department of Education is dedicated to building an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the community and schools we support by treating everyone with respect and dignity. This starts with recruitment and selection. The methods of assessing suitability in the recruitment process may vary, including making reasonable adjustments to support applicants at all stages of the process and employee lifecycle.
Our Team
The Student Wellbeing Package ensures every Queensland primary and secondary state school student has access to a wellbeing professional at school. Our team was created due to young people in Queensland experiencing mental health concerns at increased rates and levels of complexity. Schools needed to be equipped to respond appropriately to students' mental health concerns. To support Queensland state schools and their students, the number of wellbeing professionals working in schools increased over 3 years as part of the Queensland Government's $106.7 million Student Wellbeing Package.
We are now a multi-disciplinary team of professionals:
* Guidance officers (with a counselling focus)
* Youth workers
About the role:
The focus of the role is to provide therapeutic support for students with mild to moderate mental health concerns based in Mount Isa. Wellbeing professionals employed through the Student Wellbeing Package work as part of schools' established student support teams to enhance the wellbeing and mental health support available to students. This is a dynamic, school-based role with opportunities to provide service through a tele-practice mode and flexibility to working arrangements depending on the needs of the school's population. Some positions bring opportunities for travel and outreach to rural and remote settings to support our most vulnerable communities in the North Queensland region. Our roles involve supporting more than one school in the region.
As the Psychologist/Social Worker in the wellbeing package, you will:
* Provide professional support and information to students, parents, carers, and school communities that facilitate partnerships in decision making for the enhancement of all students' learning
* Operate in an advisory and advocacy capacity providing professional services specific to the psychology/social work discipline
* Respond to the needs of the student population and school community to provide assessment, personal counselling, family counselling, and group work
