Senior RF Engineer – Tactical Communications Network (TCN)
Security Clearance: NV1 (Upgrade to NV2 may be required)
Contract Length: Initial term with potential 2-year extension

Azooa is seeking a highly skilled Senior Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer to join the Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) and play a pivotal role in shaping the next-generation Tactical Communications Network (TCN) for the Australian Army.
As a key contributor to the Tactical Communications Network Battle Lab (TCNBL), you will provide expert technical analysis and hands-on support in integrating and optimising RF communications systems within the Land Combat System (LCS).
This role requires an advanced level of RF engineering expertise and a deep understanding of waveform technologies to conduct system-of-systems testing, risk reduction activities, and capability evaluation of in-service and emerging technologies.

Technical Leadership & Subject Matter Expertise
1. Act as the primary RF subject matter expert (SME) for the Tactical Communications Network Battle Lab (TCNBL)
2. Conduct detailed system-of-systems testing and large-scale evaluations of tactical communications networks
3. Develop, refine, and execute RF-focused test procedures for the TCNBL
4. Assess RF waveform performance, integration challenges, and optimisation strategies
5. Investigate and provide SME advice on in-service and emerging tactical data distribution systems
Testing, Development & Validation
1. Conduct desktop analysis and field trials to evaluate emerging waveform technologies
2. Develop and deploy test tools to enhance the Land Combat System Support Environment
3. Evaluate the RF performance of bearer systems and develop comprehensive RF test plans and procedures
4. Perform electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility (EMC) assessments on combat platforms
Collaboration & Defence Stakeholder Engagement
1. Work closely with Army, Defence organisations, and coalition partners to ensure seamless RF integration
2. Provide high-quality technical documentation and reports to enable data-driven decision-making
3. Communicate complex technical insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
4. Attend and inform key Defence program and project events to ensure RF considerations are integrated into capability development
Risk Reduction & Capability Integration
1. Support Introduction Into Service (IIS) activities for Land Capability Division programs
2. Conduct operational analysis to support TCN tests and trials with Army and other Defence organisations
3. Support risk reduction trials and acceptance testing for Land Combat Division programs
Essential Skills & Qualifications
1. Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering
2. Software development experience (independently or within a small team)
3. Expertise in RF engineering and waveform technologies
4. Experience in producing technical documentation
5. Understanding Ethernet/IP headers and packet structuring for packet inspection and filtering rules
6. Experience writing software that links to raw packet capture libraries (e.g., libpcap )
7. Ability to analyse, evaluate, and improve RF-based communications systems
8. Experience with middleware for distributed applications
9. Web front-end development experience
10. Strong background in writing acceptance test procedures
11. Knowledge of ADF deployable command and control systems
12. Experience in large-scale virtualised environments (e.g., ESXi administration )
13. Configuration and data management expertise, particularly for documentation, software, and hardware baselines
14. Certifications in Project Management or Business Analysis
Security & Contract Details
1. Security Clearance: NV1 ( upgrade to NV2 may be required )
2. Engagement Type: Time & materials contract
3. Contract Duration: Initial engagement, with potential 2-year extension (up to a maximum of 3 years )
This role requires Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain NV2 clearance if required.
