The Role
As Program Coordinator – Special Educational Needs (SEN), your primary role is to lead Primary and Secondary Education Support teachers and Special Needs Educational Assistants to cater for the educational and social/emotional needs of students with a range of disabilities within dedicated classrooms, known at East Kimberley College as “Hubs”. The role includes overseeing the educational adjustments for students with diagnosed disabilities who receive their education in mainstream classrooms. You will provide leadership regarding the development and implementation of a differentiated curriculum and Individual Education Plans for all students with diagnosed disabilities, and upskill staff in using the Reporting to Parents SEN module. Additionally, the successful applicant will understand how to use the Disabilities Resourcing System to prepare and maintain applications for Individual Disability Allocations, ensuring maximum resources are available to support our students with disabilities.
As Program Coordinator – SEN, you will have line management responsibilities for Education Support Teachers and Special Needs Education Assistants. You will build the capacity of staff through a performance development process that link to East Kimberley College’s Business Plans. This leadership role has a 0.6FTE teaching load spread across both the Primary and Secondary Hubs.
The successful applicant will ideally possess leadership in the development of curriculum designed to meet diverse student needs, including the implementation of ASDAN and ABLEWA curricula. The ideal applicant will also have experience in experience working with the families of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with disabilities.
The successful applicant will ideally have well-developed communication skills to work closely with a range of staff, including NDIS health professionals and other agencies to collaboratively seek positive student outcomes and family support. You should ideally have the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, teachers, families and community members in Kununurra. You should possess excellence as a dedicated, self-reflective and inclusive classroom practitioner with experience in teaching students with a range of educational needs.
