What’s the role?
As the Children and Family Counsellor, you will provide counselling services to vulnerable children and their families and/or carers. You will provide effective, innovative and culturally appropriate therapeutic responses for children referred to the program. You will particularly support children who have been exposed to Domestic and Family Violence using trauma-informed, sensitive counselling and appropriate interventions
Duties include:
11. Provide both onsite and outreach services that are innovative and culturally appropriate therapeutic responses for children who have been affected by Family and Domestic Violence.
12. Facilitate opportunities for whole of family interventions with parents and kinship carers focused on the impact these experiences have on the child.
13. Link children and families from the target group to appropriate support services and networks.
14. Provide opportunities for interventions with parents and family members focused on the impact that has on the child.
15. As part of the Therapeutic Team, participate in the development of protocols and practice for service delivery, including referral and assessment tool
Is this the right role for you?
16. Qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling and demonstrated eligibility for or current membership of the relevant professional body or registration with AHPRA
17. Demonstrated experience in the delivery of counselling services to children using a whole-of-family approach on issues including complex trauma, grief and loss, and behavioural difficulties
18. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practice including theories of child development, trauma and attachment theory
19. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills including the ability to represent the program and organisation externally.
