Job Title: VMWare SRE Engineer Contract: 12 Months Location: Melbourne or Canberra NV1 or Baseline clearance is a MUST Market Rates We are seeking an experienced VMWare SRE Engineer for a 12-month contract based in Melbourne. The role will involve administering and supporting both Windows Server and Linux environments, managing Azure cloud solutions, and optimising system performance. You will also be responsible for ensuring high availability, security, and cost efficiency of cloud resources, along with supporting VMware Cloud Foundation environments and automating operational tasks. Key Responsibilities: Administer and support Windows Server environments, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of services and applications. Design, implement, and manage Azure cloud solutions, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. Monitor and optimise Azure resources to maintain cost efficiency. Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems (e.g., RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS). Create and manage user accounts and permissions, ensuring appropriate access controls are in place. Implement security measures to safeguard user data and system integrity. Optimise system performance by tuning kernel parameters, managing resources, and troubleshooting bottlenecks. Analyse system logs and monitor applications to identify and resolve issues. Administer and support VMware Cloud Foundation environments, including the deployment and management of virtual machines and storage. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to virtualisation and cloud infrastructure. Respond to and resolve incidents and service requests in a timely manner, escalating to senior resources when necessary. Document issues and resolutions in the ticketing system to maintain accurate records. Use monitoring tools to track system performance and health, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues. Generate reports on system performance, incidents, and capacity planning. Work closely with other team members and departments to ensure seamless service delivery and support. Participate in knowledge sharing and contribute to best practices for service improvement. Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency. Utilise configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) for system provisioning and management. Key Skills & Requirements: Extensive experience with Windows Server and Linux environments (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS). Proven experience designing and implementing Azure cloud solutions. Strong knowledge of cloud resource optimisation, cost efficiency, and performance tuning. Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation and virtualisation technologies. Proficiency in Bash, Python, and other scripting languages to automate tasks. Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible and Puppet. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Knowledge of security best practices for cloud and on-prem environments. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
